168 new Covid-19 cases push Mizoram’s tally to 6,299

Twelve policemen, who recently returned from West Bengal after poll duty, were among 168 people who were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, pushing the state’s tally to 6,299, an official said on Sunday.

 

So far, more than 140 police personnel, who returned from Assam and West Bengal after poll duties, have tested positive for COVID-19, he said.

 

Besides, three Border Security Force (BSF) and two Central Armed Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were among the newly infected people, he said.

 

At least 2,128 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and 7.90 per cent of them came out positive for COVID-19, which is known to be the highest single-day infection rate in this year, according to the official.

 

Of the 168 fresh cases, 99 were reported from Aizawl district, 19 from Lunglei, 18 from Lawngtlai, 16 from Serchhip, 10 from Kolasib, five from Siaha and one from Champhai district.

 

Forty-five patients have travel history, while the rest were found to have contracted the infection locally. Of the 168 patients, 71 have developed symptoms of COVID-19.

 

Mizoram now has 1,299 active cases and 4,985 people have recovered from the infection. The COVID-19 death toll in the state is 15.

 

The state has conducted 3,08,842 samples test till date.

 

Meanwhile, state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi said that 2,09,089 people have been administered the first dose of COVID19 vaccine and 46,018 of them have received both doses of the vaccine.
