High percentage of Covid19 deaths among unvaccinated



A review meeting on the Covid19 situation in Mizoram was held under the chairmanship of Health Minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana on Thursday at the SAD Conference Hall, MINECO. At the meeting it was reported that a high percentage of Covid19 deaths were reported to be unvaccinated and late in undertaking necessary tests despite having symptoms.


The officials said while it was positive news to see the Covid19 positive rates declining, the tests are now symptomatic based and it is not advisable that the public become negligent.


While the rate of Covid19 deaths are high in Mizoram as compared to other Northeast states, after a careful study it was found that the deaths were highly a result of delay in taking Covid19 tests despite showing symptoms, as well as failure to take Covid19 vaccines, they said.


The IDSP Nodal officer Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma reported that there were 11, 196 (Male– 5119, Female – 6077) Covid19 cases between November 1 – 23. A total of 7, 136 recovered from the virus, 20 people unfortunately lost their lives to Covid19. Among the cases detected, 114 were below 1 year old, 1590 were between 1 – 10 years old, 2705 were between 11-20 years old, 1821 were 21 – 30 years old, 1716 were 31 – 40, 1205 were between 41 – 50, 902 were between 51 – 60, 598 were between ages 61 – 70, 349 were between ages kum 71 – 80 and 187 among people 81 years and above.


As per the report on vaccination statistics, 92% of the population have received their first dose while 78% have completed both doses.


Aizawl Mayor Lalrinenga Sailo, Chief Secretary Dr Renu Sharma, Addl Chief Secretary JC Ramthanga, DM&R Secretary Vanlalngaihsaka, Health Secretary R. Lalramnghaka and other officials as well as NGO representatives were present at the meeting.
