Mizoram to receive Covid-19 vaccines by Thursday

Mizoram will receive 18,500 doses of Covid-19 vaccines on the first phase of vaccination drive, which officials said, will arrive by Thursday.

 

Officials said that a consignment of 18,500 doses of Covishield vaccines manufactured by Serum Institute of India will arrive in the state by Thursday.

 

As many as 14,107 satte health workers and 314 central healthcare workers, have been identified to receive Covid-19 vaccine in the first phase.

 

Collection of data for frontline workers like police, defense and security personnel and sanitation workers, among others is being undertaken.

 

The health secretary said that about 8,325 healthcare workers will be vaccinated in the first phase as vaccines are given in two doses.

 

All the beneficiaries, who are registered in the databases will receive Covid-19 vaccine one after another.

 

They said that the state government is fully prepared for the first phase of vaccination drive.

 

The state government has set up four vaccination sites- Aizawl Civil Hospital, Lunglei Civil Hospital, Kulikawn Sub-District Hospital and Aizawl Urban Public Health Centre at ITI Veng in Aizawl, where the first roll-out of Covid-19 vaccines will be conducted on Saturday.

 

He further said that the state government has asked the centre to provide three additional temperature controlled vans apart from the existing nine to transport Covid-19 vaccines within the state.

 

A meeting on Tuesday said that 100 beneficiaries each will be given vaccines in the four vaccination sites on the launching day of the vaccines on Saturday.

 

The meeting also said that the Cenhtre’s operation guidelines will be strictly followed during inoculation drive.

 

Meanwhile Mizoram today reported four new infections of coronavirus, taking the state’s tally to 4,3030.

 

The four new cases detected from 1,078 samples tested in different districts. One case each was reported from Aizawl, Khawzawl, Kolasib and Lunglei districts.

 

Three of the new patients, including one BSF personnel have travel history.

 

Mizoram now has 94 active cases.

 

The state has so far tested 1,89,178 samples from which 4,303 cases of Covid-19 have been detected, putting positivity rate at 2.27 percent.

 

From 4,3030 patients, 4,200 have recovered, putting the state’s recovery rate at 97.53 percent.

 

Mizoram has so far reported nine Covid-19 fatalities.
