The day churches were re-opened in Mizoram after over ten months, a 22-year-old man who attended a church service in Aizawl tested positive for COVID-IO on Sunday, taking the state’s tally to 4,383.
An official statement said today the youth was brought to hospital due to sudden leg weakness while on his way back from a Sunday School. Then, he tested positive for COVID-19 through Rapid Antigen Test. The source of his infection is being traced, an official statement said.
Mizoram’s active case of COVID-19 today stood at 24 while a total of 4,350 have recovered from the disease. Nine people have succumbed to the infection.
Meanwhile, State Immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi said today that 10,937 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in Mizoram till Saturday.
The government aims to inoculate 15,567 healthcare workers, of which 69.81% have received the COVID-19 vaccine so far since the vaccination drive against COVID-19 for the healthcare workers started from January 16.
Lalzawmi said that Mizoram is one of the top five in terms of COVID-19 vaccination, and they will also cover all the 11 districts in Mizoram.
She also said that the distribution of the second dose would start next week, and the frontline workers will also be inoculated by this month. Although there are those who decline to be vaccinated among these healthcare workers, pregnant women and those who have a high fever won’t be vaccinated for the time being.
Mizoram received 18,.500 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in its phase 1; 16,500 in its phase 2 and have received a total of 35,000 doses of vaccine so far; Mizoram is hoping to receive 30,400 doses of vaccine for its phase 3.
The State Steering Committee on COVID 19 vaccination reported that there are 307 people in Mizoram who had side effects after taking the vaccine but most of them are those who have fever, a headache and other sickness while getting vaccinated.
