Dr. Lalrozama, Deputy Commissioner/ Chairman, District Level Committee on Fire Prevention (DLCFP) Mamit today inaugurated Fire Prevention Week (8th - 13th February) 2021 at the Conference Hall of DLAO Mamit with the theme of "Let everyone take precaution to prevent Forest Fire." At the inaugural function, PC. Lalchhandama, DFO/ Member Secretary, DLCFP reported that burning of Jhum cultivation land should be over latest by March 15 and those villages surrounding Lengpui Airport should burn their Jhum land only after 3:00 pm in the afternoon. He also reported that as per Forest survey of India through Satellite images 211 fire points were detected covering and area of 497.90 ha. However, after verification by the Forest Department of the District only 6 fire points covering 4.50 ha were verified as Forest Fire. The remaining fire points were reported as Jhum, Solid Waste burning and other agricultural related activities.
The inaugural programme was chaired by H. Rodingluaia, Chairman, Jt. VC Mamit and other speakers for the programme were K. Lalmuankima, Honorary Wildlife Warden and Lalringliana, RO Mamit. The invitees in the programme were Head of Offices, NGOs and Journalists' Association.
