Coronavirus India LIVE Updates: As Maharashtra has lately been witnessing a spike in the coronavirus cases ever since the local train services resumed, the Pune administration enforced restrictions on the movement of people from 11 pm to 6 am, while the state government banned all gatherings.

Coronavirus cases in India have climbed to 1,09,91,651 as the country continues to report a surge in the daily Covid-19 infections. There are 1,45,634 coronavirus active cases in India right now. The Union Health Ministry said on Sunday that India has been witnessing a rise in the coronavirus active cases over the past few days which is pegged at 1,45,634 comprising 1.32 per cent of the country's total infections.


According to the ministry, 22 states and UTs have not reported any coronavirus-related deaths on Saturday. More than 74 per cent of the active cases of the country are in Kerala and Maharashtra, the health ministry said.



9:37 am: India clocks in 14,199 fresh cases in 24 hrs

India on Monday reported 14,199 new coronavirus cases, 9,695 discharges, and 83 deaths in the past 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry. Total cases in India now stands at 1,10,05,850, total discharges are 1,06,99,410 and the death toll has climbed to 1,56,385. Active coronavirus cases in India are now at 1,50,055.


9:14 am: Temple in Jalna shut as 55 people test Covid-19 positive

Jalna administration in Maharashtra on Sunday temporarily shut down a temple after 55 people living in and around it tested positive for coronavirus. The temple, named 'Jalicha Dev' is a centre for the followers of Mahanubhav Hindu sect.


"The temple is visited by devotees from different parts of the district and the state, where they can stay. Fifty-five people living in and around the temple have tested positive for coronavirus, following which it was shut," the official said.


9:12 am: All gatherings banned in Maharashtra amid spike in Covid-19 cases

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that in view of the rising coronavirus cases, religious, social and political gatherings will be prohibited in the state from Monday. Asking people to follow "Coid-appropriate" behaviour and safety norms, he said he would observe for a week to 15 days and then decide whether to impose another lockdown.


Meanwhile, amid a spike in the daily active cases in some states, the Centre on Sunday advised them to increase the proportion of RT-PCR tests and regularly monitor mutant strains besides refocusing on strict surveillance and stringent containment in selected districts.


"More than 74 per cent of the active cases of the country are in Kerala and Maharashtra. Of late it is seen that there has been a spike in the daily cases in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh also. Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir too are witnessing a surge in daily new cases," the health ministry said.


As Maharashtra has been witnessing a spike in the coronavirus cases ever since the local train services resumed as part of the unlock, the Pune administration enforced certain curbs, including restriction on movement of people from 11 pm to 6 am for non-essential activities. Schools and colleges, too, have been shut.


Due to the spike in the coronavirus cases in the past few days, Amravati district in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region will be placed under a week-long lockdown from 8 pm on February 22, a state minister said on Sunday. The lockdown will be in force till 8 am on March 1, minister Yashomati Thakur said.
