At least three people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours and among them, a 54-year-old woman succumbed to the infection on Wednesday night, an official said on Thursday. While the total COVID-19 caseload in the state has risen to 4,445, the death toll is 11, he said.
The three fresh cases were reported from Aizawl district, he said.
According to the official, the deceased has returned from Silchar in Assam on March 6 with a Covid-19 certificate showing "negative" for the virus. Her sample was tested on Wednesday when she developed symptoms of Covid-19 and was admitted at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) when she was found infected with the virus, he said. She developed severe pneumonia and later died of COVID-19 around 11:40 pm on Wednesday at ZMC, the official said. The other two patients have no symptoms of Covid-19, he added.
The state now has 13 active cases, while 4,421 people have recovered from the infection. Four people were discharged from hospital on Thursday.
Altogether, 2,43,726 samples have been tested till date, including 650 on Wednesday.
The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state now stands at 99.46 per cent and the infection rate is 1.83 per cent.
Meanwhile, state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi said that as many as 49,837 people, including 15,904 senior citizens and 1,610 people with comorbidities have been administered the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine till Thursday.
A total of 10,230 healthcare workers and 982 frontline workers have received the second dose of vaccine, she said.
