Mizoram reports highest single-day spike, tally rises to 4,995

Mizoram on Tuesday reported the highest single-day spike in this year as 91 people out of 2,038 samples have tested positive for novel coronavirus, pushing the state’s caseload to 4,995, an official said.

 

He said that a 41-year-old man, who has received both doses of Covid-19 vaccine, was among the newly infected people. Of the 91 fresh cases, 76 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 10 from Lawngtlai district, 3 from Serchhip district and one case each was reported from Kolasib and Lunglei districts, he said.

 

32 patients have travel history, while the rest 59 are locally infected.

 

Of the new patients, 33 have developed symptoms of Covid-19 while the remaining 58 patients are asymptomatic.

 

Mizoram now has 414 active cases, while 4,569 people have recovered from the virus.

 

12 people have succumbed to the infection so far.

 

The state has so far tested 2,77,638 samples of which 58 were tested outside the state. According to state immunisation officer, 1,28,467 people, including 30,766 senior citizens have been administered the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

 

Of this, 34,135 people have received both doses of the vaccine.

 

Meanwhile, the state government has imposed a seven day lockdown in the state capital and 10 other district headquarters to break the chain of rising Covid19 cases and to facilitate Covid-19 test and contact tracing.

 

The lockdown commenced from Tuesday will continue till 4 am of April 26.

 

At least 522 Covid cases were detected in April (till Tuesday), while 156 cases were reported in January, 51 in February and 53 in March.
