Mizoram continue to register a spike in Covid-19 cases with 73 fresh cases reported on Thursday, pushing the state’s tally to 5,158, an official said.
14 minors aged between 10 months and 17 years and 7 elderly people in the aged group of 63 to 70 were among the newly infected people, he said.
Of the fresh cases, 52 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 6 from Kolasib district, 4 from Lawngtlai district, 3 each from Lunglei and Champhai districts, 2 each from Serchhip and Saitual districts and one case was reported from Siaha district.
18 people have travel history, while the rest 55 have locally contracted the infection.
Of the 73 patients, 38 have developed symptoms of Covid-19, the official said.
The number of active cases now stands at 546, while 4,600 people have recovered from the virus.
24 people were discharged from various Covid-19 Care Centres on Thursday.
The Covid-19 death toll in the state is 12.
The state has conducted 2,82,502 samples tests, including 2,259 on Wednesday.
The recovery rate is 89.19 per cent and the infection rate is 1.83 per cent.
According to the health department, 1,52,170 people, including 37,370 senior citizens have been administered the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine till Thursday and 38,950 of them have received both the doses.
