At least 22 people, including two children and an elderly woman, have tested positive for novel coroanvirus in Mizoram, taking the state’s Covid19 caseload to 5,410, an official said on Monday.
The fresh cases were detected from 421 samples tested on Sunday and the infection rate for this particular day was 5.23 per cent, the official said. One case was confirmed at a TrueNat lab while the remaining 21 cases were detected through Rapid Antigen Test, he said.
Of the 22 fresh cases, 12 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 4 each from Lawngtlai and Kolasib districts and 1 case each was reported from Saitual and Hnahthial districts. 5 patients have travel history while the rest 17 have locally contracted the infection, the official said. 11 of the locally infected patients have direct contact with Covid-19 positive patients while 6 are being traced to ascertain how they contracted the infection, he said.
12 patients have developed symptoms of Covid-19 while the rest 10 are asymptomatic, he added. Mizoram now has 676 active cases, while 4,721 people have recovered from the infection.
50 people were discharged from various Covid-19 Care Centres on Monday. The Covid-19 death toll in the state is 13. The state has so far tested 2,90,415 samples. Meanwhile, the state government has extended a lockdown like restrictions in all the district headquarters, including Aizawl for another 7 days till 4 am of May 3 to break the chain of rising Covid-19 transmission and facilitate Covid-19 test and contact tracing.
The existing partial lockdown was supposed to be lifted on Monday after 4 am.
