TALLY RISES TO 5,879
A 40-year-old Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, who has received both doses of Covid-19 vaccine, was among the 139 people, who tested positive for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Mizoram, an official said on Thursday.
The jawan, who returned from Uttar Pradesh, has received the second dose of vaccine on March 18, he said.
He said that the 139 fresh cases pushed the state’s tally to 5,879 of which 13 people have succumbed to the viral infection so far.
The official said that at least 3,712 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the infection rate for the said period was 3.74 per cent.
52 cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College’s RT-PCR laboratory, 1 at TrueNat facility and 86 cases were detected through Rapid Antigen Test, he said.
Of the new cases, 99 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 17 from Lawngtlai district, 10 From Serchhip district and 7 from Kolasib district.
Lunglei, Champhai and Mamit districts reported 2 cases each.
3 BSF jawans, 4 healthcare workers and one each personnel of Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CPRF) and state police were among the newly infected people, he said.
41 patients have travel history and the rest were found to have locally contracted the virus.
Of the 139 patients, 34 have developed symptoms of Covid-19.
Mizoram now has 984 active cases, while 4,882 people have recovered from the infection.
90 people were discharged from various Covid-19 Care Centres on Thursday.
The recovery rate is 83 per cent. The state has conducted 3,00,922 samples test so far. According to state immuisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, 1,95,201 beneficiaries have been vaccinated of which 45,251 people have received both the doses till Wednesday.
