Two dead in 10 hours, Siaha as containment zone

Mizoram has registered one more COVID-19 death on Monday, pushing the state’s total Covid-19 fatalities to 17, an official said.

 

A 55-year-old man from Kanan Veng in Aizawl succumbed to the infection at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) near Aizawl about 4.15 pm on Monday, he said.

 

The victim was diagnosed with Covid-19 on April and was also found having a stroke after being admitted at ZMC, he said. This is the second Covid-19 fatalities in less than 10 hours, the official said.

 

A 64-year-old man from Aizawl’s Dam Veng, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on April 30, succumbed to the virus at ZMC on Sunday, he said.

 

At least 66 people were discharged from various Covid-19 Care Centres on Monday after they were declared “recovered.”

 

The number of active cases now stands at 1,229 while 5,112 people have recovered from the virus.

 

The recovery rate is the state is 8.40 per cent.

 

The total Covid-19 count in the state is 6,358.

 

Meanwhile, Siaha town in southern part of the state has been declared Containtment zone after several Covid-19 cases were detected during random test.

 

People are told to stay indoor barring medics, security personnel , law enforcers, including volunteers and beneficiaries, who will take the second dose of vaccine, a order issued by district administration.

No vehicles en route to other places and passing through Siaha town are allowed to halt at the town, it said.

 

This came into force on Monday and will valid until further order.
