Mizoram, which has a population of 10.97 lakh according to 2011 Census, has the highest number of COVID-19 active cases per 1000 population in the NE, next to Sikkim.
According to statistics released by the Mizoram government, Mizoram as on May 12 has two active cases while Sikkim has five active cases per 1000 people.
Assam, the largest state in the NE, has one active case per 1000 people.
Manipur and Nagaland have also two active cases while Arunachal Pradesh Meghalaya and Tripura also have one active case per 1000 population.
In terms of death, Mizoram has the lowest fatality rate at 0.02 while Sikkim has the highest at 0.29, followed by Manipur with 0.19 and Tripura with 0.11 per 1000 population.
Meanwhile, Mizoram's virus caseload today reached 8,176 with 144 new cases detected during the last 24 hours. The new cases were detected from 1,961 samples tested on Wednesday, putting the day's positivity rate at 7.34 per cent.
No tests were conducted at Zoram Medical College's RT-PCR lab on Wednesday, an official statement said.
Of the 144 fresh cases, Aizawl district reported 86 cases, Champhai district 32, Kolasib 13, Serchhip five, Lawngtlai three, Lunglei one, and Siaha and Mamit districts reported two cases each, it said.
More than 23 children and seven senior citizens are among the new patients.
Only two patients have travel history, while the remaining 142 were found to have locally infected, the statement said.
Eighty-two patients have developed symptoms of COVID-19 and the remaining 62 are asymptomatic, it said.
The number of active cases now stands at 2,033, while 6,120 people have recovered from the infection.
The fatality rate in Mizoram today remained 23.
The state government has tested 3,39,065 samples till date.
As many as 2,30,103 people have been administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 51,445 of them have received both the doses of vaccine till Wednesday.
