Mizoram on Sunday reported 214 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the state’s tally to 10,220, an official said.
The state also reported two Covid deaths.
Of the 214 fresh cases, Aizawl district registered the highest at 158, followed by Lunglei and Lawngtlai districts, which reported 18 cases and 14 cases respectively, he said.
65 new cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College’s RT-PCR laboratory from Aizawl district, 5 cases at TrueNat facilities from two districts and 144 cases were detected through Rapid Antigen Test from various districts, he said.
Of the 214 patients, 96 have developed symptoms of Covid-19.
More than 43 children were among the newly infected people, the official said.
Eleven patients have travel history, while 129 were diagnosed with Covid-19 during contact tracing and it is to ascertain how the remaining 74 patients contracted the infection, he said. Mizoram on Sunday reported two more Covid-19 deaths as two women aged 50 and 49 years from Aizawl district have succumbed to the infection at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), an official said.
With this the death toll has reached 33.
While the 50-year old woman was diagnosed with Covid-19 on May 7, the other victim was infected with novel coronavirus on May 20, he said.
Both have comorbidities, he added.

The number of active cases now stands at 2,396, while 7,791 people have recovered from the infection.
55 people were discharged from various Covid-19 Care Centres on Sunday after they were declared "recovered."
Mizoram has conducted 3,67,112 samples test, including 3,462 on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the state government has extended complete lockdown in Aizawl and other district headquarters till May 31 to curtail the rising Covid-19 transmission.
