A record single-day spike of 329 infections pushed Mizoram’s Covid-19 tally to 11,988 on Sunday, while the death toll climbed to 37 with two persons succumbing to the disease in a span of 13 hours, an official data updated on Sunday morning said.
This is the highest single-day spike ever in the state, it said.
The active cases now stands at 2,990 comprising 24.94 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate has dropped from 76 per cent on Saturday to 74.75 per cent on Sunday.
The number of people, who have recuperated from the infection, has surged to 8,961.
The northeastern state has so far tested 3,89,007 samples for Covid-19, including 4,109 in the last 24 hours and the infection rate for the day was 8 per cent.
Of the 329 fresh cases, Aizawl district registered the highest at 135, followed by Kolasib and Lawngtlai districts, both reported 57 and 46 cases respectively, the data said.
The remaining cases were reported from Lunglei district (41), Serchhip district (41), Mamit district (1) Saitual district (4) Siaha district (2) and Khawzawl district (2).
249 were detected through Rapid Antigen Test, 68 through RT-PCR test conducted at ZMC and the remaining 12 cases were detected through TrueNat tests. More than 47 children, 2 Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and a healthcare worker were among the newly infected people, the official data revealed.
15 patients have travel history, while 180 were diagnosed with Covid-19 during contact tracing and it is to ascertain how the remaining 134 patients contracted the virus, it said.
162 patients have developed symptoms of Covid-19 and 167 are asymptomatic.
Meanwhile, state immunization officer Dr. Lalzawmi said that as many as 2,56,741 people have been administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, of which 52,067 people have received both the doses till Saturday.
