Mizoram logs 99 Covid cases, 2 fatalities

Mizoram on Monday reported 99 new Covid-19 cases, taking the state's tally to 12,087, an official said.

 

The state also reported two more Covid-19 fatalities, which took the death toll to 40, he said. At least 744 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours and 13.30 per cent of them came out positive for Covid-19.

 

Of the 99 fresh cases, 83 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 3 from Siaha district, 4 from Kolasib district, 8 from Lawngtlai district and 1 case was reported from Lunglei district, the official said.

 

More than 25 children and two frontline workers among the newly infected people, he said. All the 99 patients were found to have locally contracted the virus and among them, the contact history of 23 patients are yet to be ascertained, he said.

 

74 patients have developed symptoms of Covid-19, while 25 are asymptomatic.

 

Mizoram has tested 3,89,751 samples for Covid-19 till date.

 

The Covid-19 death toll in Mizoram reached 40 on Monday as one more person has succumbed to the infection, official sources said.

 

A 64-year-old woman from Aizawl died of Covid-19 at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) around 3:30 pm on Monday, state information and public relations department said in its official Twitter handle. The victim was diagnosed with Covid-19 on May 15 and was admitted at ZMC on May 18.

 

She has comorbidities, it said.

 

This is the second Covid-19 fatality reported on Monday within a span of 7 hours. 57-year-old personnel of 4th Indian Reserve Battalion, who had returned to the state from West Bengal in April after executing poll duty, had succumbed to the infection in the morning.

 

He was the first policeman among 705, who had gone to West Bengal and Assam for poll duty in March, to have died of Covid-19.

 

Officials said that more than 300 policemen, who returned from West Bengal and Assam after poll duty in April, have so far tested positive for Covid-19. Majority of them have recovered from the infection, they said.

 

On Sunday, Mizoram reported three Covid-19 fatalities. The state has reported 5 Covid-19 fatalities within 2 days and the death rate for these particular two days was 1.17 per cent.

 

The overall death rate stands at 0.34 per cent. Mizoram on Monday reported 99 Covid-19 cases, which pushed the state’s tally to 12,087.

 

The number of active cases now stands at 2,903, while 9,144 people have recovered from the infection.

 

129 people were discharged from various Covid-19 care centres on Monday. The recovery rate is 75.66 per cent.
