Mizoram on Tuesday reported 317 new COVID-19 cases and two Covid-19 fatalities, pushing the state’s tally to 13,994 and death toll to 57 an official statement said.
The new cases detected from 3,967 samples tested on Tuesday, put the single-day positivity rate at 7.99 per cent, it said.
Of the fresh cases, Aizawl district reported the highest at 251, followed by Kolasib district (21) and Lawngtlai district (17), it said.
The remaining cases were from Lunglei, Serchhip, Saitual, Siaha, Mamit and Khawzawl districts.
More than 61 children, including a one-month-old baby, were among the newly infected people, the statement said.
Five patients have travel history, while the remaining 312 were found to have locally contracted the infection, it said.
The contact history of 99 patients are yet to be ascertained, it said.
Of the 317 patients, 231 have developed symptoms of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, two women from Aizawl district both aged 71 and 54 have succumbed to the infection at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Tuesday. The two victims had comorbidities. With this, the death toll in the state has climbed to 57 at a rate of 0.41 per cent.
At least 49 people have died due to Covid-19 since January 10 this year.
Eight people succumbed to the infection last year.

The state now has 3,207 Covid-19 active cases, while 10,730 people have recovered from the infection.
At least 177 people were discharged from various Covid-19 Care Centres on Tuesday. The recovery rate is 76.68 per cent.
Of the 1,091,014 population as per 2011 census, at least 1.29 per cent has been infected with Covid-19 in Mizoram, according to officials.
The state has tested 4,14,584 samples for Covid-19 till date.
According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, as many as 2,74,383 people have been administered the first dose of COVID19 vaccine of which 52,535 have received both doses till Tuesday.
