Green Mizoram Day observed in OUR REPORTER various District of Mizoram

Green Mizoram Day is being observed in various districts of Mizoram with a theme of ‘Plant trees for better water source and environment’ today.

 

In Kolasib District, Green Mizoram day was observed this morning at Regional Sports Training Centre, Saidan Kolasib where Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister K.Lalrinliana was the Chief Guest of the function.

 

Sapling plantation of the state tree, Mesua Ferrea (Herhse) in the RSTC campus was carried out with distribution of prizes for 'Best Village towards the prevention of domestic and forest fire' for the year 2021. The 1st prize was awarded to Thingthelh village, 2nd prize to Khamrang and 3rd prize to North Chhimluang village.According to a report presented by N.Viji, DFO, Kolasib, the Kolasib Forest Division earmarked 21,290 seedlings for the year 2021 to be distributed at various parts of Kolasib district.

 

In Mamit district, a ceremonial function of tree plantation on the occasion of green Mizoram 2021 was celebrated in H. Thanzauva waiting shed at tri-junction of Aizawl-Mamit-Kawrthah with Er. H Lalzirliana MLA Mamit as the Chief Guest.

 

DFO Mamit reported that of the 118193 tree saplings planted during the period from 1999 in Mamit District about 47270 trees are still serving the climate for better environment.

 

Chief guest distributed awards for the Village level fire prevention 2021. Nghalchawm was awarded first with a prize money of 50,000/- and a certificate, second position goes to Kawrthah South and third was awarded to Kanhmun village who were given 30,000/- and 20,000/ - respectively and a certificate.

 

The programme was chaired by Dr. Lalrozama IAS, DC Mamit and chairman of DLC in Green Mizoram Mamit District. The Theme for Green Mizoram 2021 is "Plant trees for better water source and Climate ".

 

In Lunglei district, Green Mizoram Day 2021 is observed with an inaugural function and ceremonial tree planting held at HATIM Campus, Kawmzawl, Pukpui. Pu Lawmawma Tochhawng, Lunglei HPC Vice Chairman inaugurated Green Mizoram Day 2021 for Lunglei District, and led the ceremonial planting of tree saplings in honor of the Day.

 

In his inaugural speech, the HPC Vice Chairman highlighted the trend of decreasing forest cover and biodiversity loss that Mizoram, along with other North East States, has suffered over the years. Stating that protecting our forests and wildlife at any cost is the need of the hour, especially given the recent outbreak of devastating forest fires in various parts of the State, the HPC Vice Chairman encouraged those present to continue being active crusaders for the environment.

 

The inaugural program was chaired by Lunglei DC & Chairman District Green Mizoram Committee Kulothungan A, with a report from Lunglei DFO & Member Secretary District Green Mizoram Committee Lalrammawii Sailo, and short speech by Vuansanga Vanchhawng, Principal, HATIM. Ngentluanga, SE PHE concluded with a vote of thanks.

 

As is done at Green Mizoram Day function every year, awards was distributed under different categories viz 'Best Village towards the prevention of domestic and forest fire', Best Planting Agency under two categories – Government and NGO & Others. This year’s winners under different categories are as below:

In Best Village Towards the prevention of Domestic and Forest Fire: 1st Zobawk S - Rs.50,000/- + Citation ; 2nd Changpui - Rs.30,000/- + Citation ; 3rd Lungdai S - Rs.20,000/- + Citation. In Best Planting Agency-Government : 1st – Excise & Narcotics – Rs. 3000/ - + Citation; 2nd – DRDA Lunglei – Rs. 2500/- + Citation; 3rd - Sainik Welfare Department – Rs. 2000/- + Citation. In Best Planting Agency - NGOs & Others: 1st – District PYD NE India – Rs. 3000/- + Citation; 2nd – NSS Baptist Higher Secondary School – Rs. 2500/- + Citation and 3rdNSS Govt J Buana College – Rs. 2000/- + Citation.

 

The inaugural function was followed by ceremonial tree planting, with the dignitaries and invitees planting saplings of the Mizoram State Tree – Herhse (Mesua ferrea) in the HATIM Campus. In honour of the day, various planting agencies within the District have stepped out in their respective planting areas to clear undergrowth and repair sapling protectors. The planting agencies have been instructed to follow Covid Appropriate Behaviour.

 

In Serchhip District, Green Mizoram Day, 2021 was observed today by Serchhip District level Committee on Green Mizoram at Thenzawl Golf Course with a short ceremony and official planting of trees within the Course complex.

 

K. Lalrinzuali, Secretary, Tourism, Govt. of Mizoram graced the function as Chief Guest and Kumar Abhishek, Deputy Commissioner, Serchhip, the Guest of Honour. Dr. Irene Zohlimpuii Chawngthu, Jt. Secretary, Tourism, V. Lalengmawia, Director, Tourism, Lalmuansanga Ralte, Addl. DC, Serchhip, Amol Srivastava, IAS, SDO, Thenzawl and selected officials attended the function. After the ceremony at Golf Course Multipurpose Hall, the programme was followed by planting of trees by officials.

 

Mizoram has been observing the Green Mizoram Day on June 11 since 1999 and 3,981,909 trees have been planted across the state till last year as per report published by the Mizoram EF&CC Department.
