Seven deaths take Mizoram’s Covid-19 toll to 70

Mizoram reported 97 new COVID-19 cases and 7 more deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the state’s tally to 15,363 and death toll to 67.

 

State information and public relations department, which handles the COVID-19 tally, said that four persons aged between 32 and 91 years died within a span of 23 hours between Sunday and Monday.

 

Six victims belonged to Aizawl district and one from Khawzawl district, it said.

 

The department said that 951 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the positivity rate was 10.30 per cent as 97 people have tested positive for the infection out of the total samples tested.

 

Of the fresh cases, 85 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 6 from Lunglei district, 4 from Kolasib district, 2 from Siaha district and 1 case was reported from Hnahthial district, it said. More than 25 children were among the newly infected people, it said.

 

Two patients have travel history, while the remaining 96 were found to have locally contracted the infection, it said.

 

83 patients have developed symptoms of COVID-19 and the remaining 15 are asymptomatic. The number of active cases now stands at 3,457 while 11,836 people have recovered from the infection.

 

At least 88 people were discharged from various COVID-19 Care facilities on Monday after they were declared fully recovered.

 

The recovery rate in the state is 77 per cent.

 

Earlier on Saturday, the state government has announced to provide free Covid-19 vaccine to all Indian citizens who live in the state irrespective of age.

 

According to state immunization officer Dr. Lalzawmi, 2,99,068 people have been administered the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine till Monday and out of this 53,245 people have received both the doses.
