Nineteen more prisoners of Aizawl central jail have tested positive for cOVID-19 pushing the single-day count in Mizoram to 226 with a positivity rate of 7.20 per cent on Thursday, a health official said.
Earlier on Wednesday, as many as 103 prisoners of the jail were found infected with the coronavirus, the official said.
There are currently 160 COVID- 19 patients in the jail, he said.
He added that the state also reported twomore COVID-19 fatality in the last 24 hours, which took the death toll to 87.
Mizoram’s COVID-19 count now stands at 18,624, of which 4,331 are active cases, while 14,217 people have recovered from the disease.
Of the 226 fresh cases, Aizawl district reported 140 cases, Kolasib district 37, Lunglei 31, Siaha eight, Hnahthial five, Lawngtlai three, and Serchhip and Kolasib districts reported one each, the official said.
Forty-one new cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College’s RT-PCR laboratory, 12 at TrueNat laboratories and the remaining 170 cases were detected through Rapid Antigen Test from various districts, he said.
Fifty-four children, two frontline workers and a Border Security Force BSF (BSF) jawan were among the newly infected people, he said.
Six patients have travel history, while the remaining 220 people were found to have locally contracted the virus. Of the 226 patients, 116 have developed symptoms of COVID-19 in Mizoram, the official said.
The new cases were detected among 3,136 samples tested in the last 24 hours, he said. So far, Mizoram has tested over 4,65 lakh samples for COVID-19.
According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 4.37 lakh people have been inoculated till Wednesday. Of these, 53,892 people have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
