Meetings on disaster preparedness held in Lunglei

Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Shri Kulothungan and also a chairman of Lunglei District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) stressed on conducting disaster meeting in the DC Conference Hall to assess the district’s disaster preparedness in view of the coming monsoon. Addressing a meeting on disaster management today , the DC asked the government departments to carry out vulnerability mapping and prepare contingency plans. The meeting was attended amidst presence of DDMA Member , representatives of Disaster Incident Commander , Fire & Emergency Services, VC and Sub Hqrs YMA .

 

DDMA Chairman Shri Kulothungan highlighted about disaster management aims to reduce, or avoid, the potential losses from hazards, assure prompt and appropriate assistance to victims of disaster, and achieve rapid and effective recovery. The Disaster management cycle illustrates the ongoing process by which governments, businesses, and civil society plan for and reduce the impact of disasters, react during and immediately following a disaster, and take steps to recover after a disaster has occurred. Appropriate actions at all points in the cycle lead to greater preparedness, better warnings, reduced vulnerability or the prevention of disasters during the next iteration of the cycle. The complete disaster management cycle includes the shaping of public policies and plans that either modify the causes of disasters or mitigate their effects on people, property, and infrastructure.

 

Further during the meeting H&FW Department presented the report of the initiative taken during monsoon season disease like cholera, typhoid, malaria for public in the district. Meanwhile Lunglei DCSO also present the report of monsoon stock , the availability of rice stock and rice supply in seven centre in the district till month of October. In addition 99 personnel trained out from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) under 2ndBattalion MAP, in which 67 personnel have in Battalion headquarters. With relevant of disaster management necessity requirement tools , Quick Response Team, Adventure Club and NGOs.

 

Incident Commander for its constituency will make report of Hazard Vulnerability Mapping building, electric ban, other tress on danger will be submit on 10 July . As strike of disaster making of Disaster Shelter (building or hall) will be identify by VCP said in the meeting. Besides these District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will construct whatsapp group ‘Awareness/ Advisory ’ from related department take responsibility.
