Mizoram Covid-19 tally crosses 20,000 mark with 256 new cases

Mizoram Covid-19 count crossed a 20,000 mark on Wednesday as 256 more people have tested positive for the infection, a health official said.

 

The fresh cases detected from 3,534 samples took the state’s tally to 20,075 and put the single-day positivity rate at 7.27 per cent, he said.

 

The new Covid-19 cases were reported from various districts with Aizawl reported the highest at 154, followed by Kolasib and Lawngtlai, both reported 50 and 17 cases respectively, he said.

 

68 children and 4 inmates of an orphanage and rehabilitation centre in Kolasib district were among the newly infected people, he said.

 

22 patients have travel history and the rest 234 were found to have locally contracted the virus. 117 patients have developed symptoms of Covid-19 and 139 are asymptomatic, the official said. Mizoram now has 3,876 Covid-19 active cases.

 

The state on Wednesday registered the highest single-day recovery rate as 594 people, including 527 inmates of Thutak Nunpuitu Team (TNT) orphanage and deaddiction centre, have recovered from the infection, which took the total recovery to 16,106.

 

The Covid-19 death toll has reached 93 as a 31-year-old woman from Vairengte died of the infection at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Wednesday.

 

The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients is 80.22 per cent and the death rate is 0.46 per cent. The state has so far tested over 4.85 lakh samples for Covid19.

 

According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, more than 5 lakh people have been vaccinated till Tuesday.
