Mizoram reports highest spike after lockdown relaxation

Mizoram on Thursday reported the highest single-day spike of COVID19 cases since the relaxation of lockdown on June 30 as 548 people, including 46 inmates of an orphanage and rehabilitation centre, have tested positive for the infection, pushing the state’s tally to 22,703. According to official statement by state information and public relations departments, the singleday positivity rate was 16.88 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 3,245 sample tests.

 

Of the 548 new cases, Aizawl district reported the highest at 196, followed by Lawngtlai district at 174 and Kolasib district at 81, it said. Over 88 children and 4 jawans of Border Security Force (BSF) were among the newly infected people, it said.

 

Of the fresh cases, 170 were reported from a village alone, it said. 21 patients have travel history and the rest 527 were found to have contracted the disease locally.

 

167 people have developed symptoms of Covid-19.

 

Mizoram now has 3,733 COVID-19 active cases, while 18,869 people have recovered from the infection.

 

The COVID-19 death toll in the state has risen to 101 as two more people have succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, a health department official said.

 

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patient is 83.11 per cent and 0.44 per cent, he said.

 

The state has tested 5,13,712 samples for COVID-19 till date.

 

According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 5.5 lakh people have been inoculated till Wednesday.
