Mizoram logs 725 new Covid-19 cases, 2 deaths

Mizoram continues to register a spike in Covid-19 cases as 725 more people have tested positive for the infection in the last 24 hours, pushing the state's tally to 29,020, a health department official said on Wednesday.

 

Of the fresh 725 cases, 111 were detected during mass testing drive held in six localities or pockets within Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area, he said.

 

44 cases were confirmed at an RTPCR laboratory in Zoram Medical College (ZMC), while 647 cases were detected through Rapid Antigen Test and the remaining 34 cases were detected through TrueNat tests, he said.

 

More than 138 children were among the newly infected people, he said.

 

The single-day positivity rate has risen to 16 per cent from 10.85 per cent on Tuesday. Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 461, followed by Kolasib (116), Lunglei (72), Mamit (33), Lawngtlai (25), Siaha (16) and Serchhip (2). According to the official, 342 patients were diagnosed with Covid-19 during contact tracing and it is to ascertain how the remaining 383 patients contracted the virus. Of the 725 patients, 651 patients have developed symptoms of COVID-19, he said.

 

Mizoram now has 6,662 active COVID-19 cases while 22,231 people have recovered from the infection, including 170 on Wednesday, he said.

 

The Covid-19 death toll in the state has risen to 127 as two more persons have succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours.

 

The northeastern state has tested over 5.69 lakh samples for COVID19, including 4,530 in the last 24 hours.

 

The recovery rate among Covid- 19 patients is 76.60 per cent and death rate is 0.43 per cent. According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 6.11 lakh people have been inoculated till Tuesday.
