Monsoon updates LIVE: Weather department issues red alert in Rajasthan; heavy rainfall in Odisha, Bihar and other states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

 

The monsoon has hit several parts of the country in an intense way, claiming several lives. Due to torrential rainfall in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, nine people have lost their lives in two days. The eastern part of the country is experiencing heavy rainfall due to low-pressure formation over some states. Waterlogging and extensive rainfall every day has increased the issues faced by commuters.

 

As per the predictions by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a red alert has been issued in Rajasthan. Heavy rainfall has been predicted in many parts of the state, whereas almost half of Madhya Pradesh is under an orange alert. Currently, Delhi is also under an orange alert.

 

Chandigarh-Manali NH-3 blocked due to landslide

Amid the extensive rainfall, flooding and landslides, the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway 3 has been blocked. The highway has been blocked near the Pandoh area of Mandi district. Mandi police revealed that restoration work is underway.

 

Due to a cloudburst on Wednesday, around 21 houses, 21 cow sheds, a ration depot, a bridge and a mosque have been damaged. The Indian Air Force (IAF) rescued 74 stranded personnel from different parts of Kishtwar, including five critically injured patients, yesterday. So far, seven people have lost their lives and 17 others have been rescued in an injured condition after the remote Honzar village in Dacchan tehsil.

 

Heavy rainfall predicted in Odisha, West Bengal and other states

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Just like yesterday, the rainfall will continue in UP, Uttarakhand, and Haryana as well.
