At least two people were killed and five were buried under debris due to a landslide near Jumma village in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light showers for Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The deficiency in rainfall in two successive months has triggered fears of a below normal monsoon this year, the India Meteorological Department (IMD)has said. As per the IMD data, July recorded seven per cent less rainfall and rainfall in August has been deficient by 26 per cent.
The southwest monsoon has revived in Telangana and the weather department has predicted very heavy rainfall for Telangana today and has issued a yellow alert for various districts of the state. Heavy rains lashed various parts of Hyderabad on Sunday with Mallapur recording the highest rainfall of 36.8mm.
According to Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Hyderabad is expected to receive heavy to very downpours for the next two days and the city has been put on yellow alert.
On Sunday, heavy rains lashed parts of Kerala and the state received rainfall up to 10 cm in 24 hours. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for a few districts today and has warned fishermen not to venture out in the sea.
The IMD in its latest weather bulletin has forecast that the state will experience isolated heavy rainfall on Monday and will see cloudy skies with one or two spells of showers or thunderstorms till September 2.
According to media reports, the IMD has predicted light to heavy rains in the coastal belts of Chennai and other areas on Monday. However, the weather agency said that Tuesday might remain relatively dry.
The MeT department has predicted thunderstorms with light to heavy rain and the sky condition to be generally cloudy for today.

Two killed, five buried under debris as landslide hits Himachal's Pithorgarh:
At least two people were killed and five were buried under debris due to a landslide near Jumma village of Pithoragarh district. An official was quoted by PTI as saying several people went missing after three houses collapsed in a village following heavy rains in Dharchula sub-division of the district. He added that two bodies were recovered and a search operation was underway for those still missing.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami informed that the district magistrate has been ordered to intensify the rescue mission, reported news agency ANI.

Lightning strike claims two lives in Jharkhand:
At least two members of a family were killed and four others, including an infant, suffered injuries on Sunday when lightning strucl them in a paddy field in Jharkhand's Gumla district, reported news agency PTI.
Police officers were quoted by PTI as saying that the incident took place in Jakjore village under Basia police station limits. The deceased were identified as Durga Singh (45) and his daughter Pushpa Kumari (18).

Light to moderate showers expected in Delhi:
After experiencing a brief dry spell, the national capital and its adjoining areas witnessed light to moderate showers on Sunday. According to IMD's prediction, Delhi and adjoining NCR regions can expect light showers today.
On Sunday, the maximum and minimum temperatures settled at 34 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. The weather experts said that August has been a month for extremes for Delhi.
Third spell of rain likely in Madhya Pradesh:
According to IMD, Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive its third spell of rain today and tomorrow, news agency PTI reported. The state is expected to receive heavy rainfall and districts such as Vidisha, Sagar, Betul, Chhindwara and Balaghat have been put on alert.
The IMD said Bhopal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol, Hoshangabad, Sagar and Chambal divisions are expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. An IMD official was quoted by PTI as saying that the monsoon activity is expected to continue this week and a monsoon trough passing through Gwalior and Sidhi districts in the state is causing rain.
Light rainfall predicted for Pune; monsoon to revive in Maharashtra:
Maharashtra is expected to witness a revival of the monsoon as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to move over the west-northwest across Central and western India in the next few days.
The monsoon revival is likely to last till September 1 and Pune is likely to get moderate rainfall in isolated areas. Light to moderate shower is expected in Pune on September 1 and 2.
According to IMD, the monsoon started its revival in the state from August 29 evening, barring Madhya Maharashtra, and will be in full force on Monday and Tuesday. From September 2, rainfall in the state will become subdued and there will be a drastic reduction.
IMD issues orange alert for Uttarakhand:
Uttarakhand has seen intermittent rainfall for the past two days which triggered landslides and waterlogging in various places. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the state and has issued a warning for 6 cm to 20 cm of rains for 24 hours which is likely to disrupt transport and electricity supply.
Many images and videos that surfaced on social media revealed that dozens of roads were washed away, bridges were damaged and many low-lying areas were submerged due to incessant rains in the state.
As per Disaster Management Department(DMD), more than 200 roads (5 National highways), 15 state highways have been blocked in the state and efforts are underway to open them.
Central, West India to experience enhanced rainfall activity:
According to the weather agency, Central and West India are expected to receive enhanced rainfall activity till September 2 and similar activity is expected to continue over south Peninsular India and there will be a reduction thereafter.
States such as Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Bihar are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall on Monday, the IMD said. Meanwhile, northeast India, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to get widespread rainfall over the next 24 hours and will see a reduction thereafter.
Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are also expected to receive isolated very heavy rainfall today. The IMD has further stated that the Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest India will witness scattered rainfall for the next few days.
