Mizoram Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs minister K. Lalrinliana (61) has tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, an official said.
He is the third minister and sixth legislator from the state to have been infected with the virus, he said. Lalrinliana, who also holds local administration and fisheries portfolios developed mild symptoms, he said. He will be shifted to Zoram Medical College (ZMC), the lone dedicated Covid-19 hospital in the state near Aizawl, the official added.
Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia, power minister R.Lalzirliana, two ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) legislators- Dr. Vanlaltanpuia and F. Lalnunmawia, and lone BJP MLA Dr. BD Chakma had earlier tested positive for Covid-19 and all of them have already recovered from the infection.
Mizoram on reported 527 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the state tally to 88,693, a government bulletin said.
The death toll rose to 301 as nine more people succumbed to the infection, it said. Chief Minister Zoramthanga's elder sister Lalvuani (88) and Joydeep Naskar (42) from Kolkata were among the Covid-19 victims, the bulletin said.
The single-day infection rate was 31.77 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 1, 659 sample tests, it said.
The fresh cases were reported from various districts with Aizawl district reporting the highest at 450, followed by Lawngtlai at 20 and Champhai at 16.
At least 131 children were among the newly infected people, the bulletin said.
At least 355 patients have developed symptoms of Covid-19, it said.
Mizoram now has 14,746 active cases, while 73,646 people have recovered from the infection.
At least 733 people were discharged from various Covid-19 Care facilities on Monday.
The recovery rate among Covid19 patients is 83 per cent and the death rate is 0.33 per cent. The state has conducted more than 10.71 lakh sample tests for Covid-19 till date.
According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 6.76 lakh people have been vaccinated till Saturday, of which 4.15 lakh people have received full doses.
