Centre to send experts to assess Mizoram Covid-19 situation

The Centre would send a team of experts to Mizoram, which has been witnessing rising Covid-19 cases for the past 6 months, an official said on Friday.

 

During a meeting with a Mizoram delegation headed by lone Lok Sabha member C. Lalrosanga on Thursday, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan assured that a team of experts will be sent by the Centre apart from providing financial assistance and medicines to the state, the official said. Last month two representatives from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Regional Office, in Manipur and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Delhi visited the state to assess the rising Covid-19 cases, he said.

 

He said that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 44.38 crore under Emergency Covid Response Package (ECRP), of which Rs.19.94 crore has been released as the first instalment and the remaining amount will be released once the state submitted detailed utilisation of the first instalment.

 

He said that the Centre may provide high effective Covid-19 medicine Monoclonal Antibodies Cocktail(MAC) free of cost. The northeastern state on Friday 1,170 new Covid-19 cases, 571 less than the previous day, with the state's tally reaching 94,830, state health department sources said. The death toll rose to 313 as four more people have succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the sources said. The single-day positive rate dipped to 16.83 per cent from the previous day 18.44 per cent, it said.

 

The number of actives cases now stands at 16,416, which is 425 less than the previous day.

 

At least 729 people have recovered on Friday, taking the total recovery to 78,833 and 1,592 people were recovered on Thursday. The recovery rate among Covid19 patients is 83.13 per cent which is less than the national average of 97.86 per cent, while the death rate is 0.33 per cent against the national average of 1.33 per cent. Mizoram registered a continuous spike in Covid-19 cases since April with daily cases crossing 1,000 several times.

 

Throughout out last month (September), the state registered above 1,000 cases almost every day except for 8 days.

 

While 21,074 Covid-19 cases were reported in August, a total of 34,263 cases were registered in September, according to health department.

 

At least 1,655 cases were reported in April, 6,268 in May, 8,093 in June and 18,433 in July, it said. The state has so far conducted more than 11 lakh samples tests for Covid-19. Over 6.8 lakh people have been vaccinated till Thursday, of which 4.42 lakh people have received full doses, state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi. At least 8.69 per cent of the state population of 10.91 lakh (2011 census) have been already infected with Covid-19. It has been estimated that at least 28 persons per 1 lakh population died due to the virus.
