Cleanliness week kicked off across districts

Cleanliness Week, 2021 to be observed during 2nd - 8th October with a theme of "Cleanliness - From our home and its vicinity" was inaugurated across districts on Saturday. In Lawngtlai District, the program was kicked off by Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) Pu V. Zirsanga.

 

The function was chaired by TT Beikhaizi, District Project Officer (DPO), UD&PA Lawngtlai. After a devotion by Rev. R. Laldawngliana, UPC(M), VL Ramnunsangi, District Manager, UD&PA Lawngtlai gave a brief report. DIPRO Lawngtlai C. Lalhruaitluanga conducted a Swachhata Pledge taking and D. Huanneihmawia, Local Administration Officer, LADC proposed a vote of thanks.

 

The function was attended by officials from LADC and state departments, representatives of village council and NGOs and cleanliness ambassadors of various localities within Lawngtlai town.

 

In this function, 35 numbers (24 males and 11 females) of sanitation workers under Sanitation Department of LADC were felicitated with a certificate of honour as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Pu Vanlalzaua was awarded Best Male Sanitation Worker and Pi Lalnunpuii was awarded Best Female Sanitation Worker. They received a citation and cash prize of Rs 3,000/- each.

 

Along with other parts of the State, Champhai District inaugurated the week-long cleanliness drive at CHANEM Building at 8:30 a.m organized by the District Level Cleanliness Week Celebration Committee. Deputy Commissioner, Champhai Pi Maria C.T Zuali graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and kicked off the Cleanliness Week 2021 themed ‘Cleanliness -From our Home and its Vicinity’.

 

The inaugural programme was presided by R.Lalnunkimi, DUDO Champhai and Dr. Lallawmkima DIPRO Champhai administered the Swachhata Pledge which was followed by the prize distribution ceremony. Pi K.Lalrinfimi, Women Welfare Officer briefed the gathering on the topic ‘Women Safety, Rights and Gender Equality. Pu Henry C.Lalrawnkima, Addl. DC Champhai gave away Certificate of Appreciation to 18 Sanitation Workers. Vote of thanks proposed by Pi Lalbiaklawmi, UD&PA Staff concluded the inaugural function.

3) Best performing VC in reducing plastic wastes - Vengthlang

4) Best Performing Male Sanitation Worker - Pi Laltlingliani

5) Best Performing Female Sanitation Worker- Pu Lalhmangaihzuala

It was inaugurated for Lunglei District by Deputy Commissioner & Chairman Lunglei Town Sanitation Task Force Shri Kulothungan A at a function held at the Convention Centre. Kicking off the Cleanliness Week 2021, Deputy Commissioner Pu Kulothungan A appealed to the stakeholders present to continue to focus on cleanliness, and motivate citizens in their respective areas to be more proactive and participative in sanitation related drives. He also thanked Line Departments & NGOs, VCs and the general public for their contribution towards Lunglei District winning ‘Overall Cleanest Town’ & ‘1st Rank for District Headquarter’ at ‘Cleanliness Competition in Urban Mizoram - 2020’ organized by the UD&PA Department, and sought their continued cooperation for the competition in 2021.

 

Vanthangpuii Lunglei DUDO presented a brief report on plans and programs to be carried out during the Cleanliness Week 2021. The ‘Swachhta Pledge’ was also taken by all the members present in the inaugural kick off this morning.

The nodal Department for the initiative, Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) has chalked out a week-long program that includes activities such as voluntary mass cleanliness drive, cleanliness drive at government offices, awareness campaigns through different media etc to be observed in all the Districts of the State.

 

The Department has also launched the 5th Edition of their flagship initiative ‘Mizoram Cleanliness Competition’ in line with the Swachh Survekshan 2022. 28 towns in Mizoram will compete to win the much coveted title - ‘Overall Cleanest Town in Mizoram.’ As the current title holder, all stakeholders in Lunglei town have their work cut out for them to defend the title again this year. The Nodal Department UD&PA & other line Departments in Lunglei District have, over the years, been successful in bringing key stakeholders into the fold, and entrusting responsibilities down to the grassroots level. In Hnahthial, the function was chaired by DUDO Hnahthial Pu Lalremruata Sailo with devotion by BCM Hnahthial South Pastor Rev.TC.Vanlalmalsawma. The ‘Swacchta Pledge’ was also taken by all the members present in the inaugural kick off this morning. Participants at the recently concluded Waste to Art Exhibition, and two ‘Waste Entreprepreneurs’ Pu Lianhnuna and Pu Malsawmtluanga, both vermicompost entrepreneurs were felicitated at the program today.
