Mizoram COVID-19 situation remains grim as 1,080 new cases with a positivity rate of 12.88 per cent were reported in the last 24 hours, pushing the state's tally to 1,03,709 on Friday.

 

The death toll rose to 344 as two more person has succumbed to the infection, a health department official said.

 

At least 53,840 samples have been tested for COVID-19 since October 1 and 16.49 per cent of them came out Covid-19 positive, he said.

 

Of the 1,080 fresh cases, Aizawl district reported the highest at 635, followed by Lunglei district (109) and Champhai district (93).

 

At least 260 children and 3 Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were among the newly infected people, he said.

 

Eight patients have travel history and the rest 1,072 were found to have contracted the virus locally, he said.

 

The number of COVID-19 active cases now stands at 15,505.

 

At least 712 people have recovered on Thursday till 5 pm, taking the total recovery to 87,860. The recovery rate among COVID19 patients is 84.71 per cent and the death rate is 0.33 per cent. The state has conducted more than 11.58 lakh sample tests for COVID-19 till date.

 

Over 6.85 lakh people have been vaccinated till Thursday, of which 4.64 lakh people have received full dose of COVID-19 vaccine, state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi said.
