Mizoram reports 790 new COVID-19 cases, 7 deaths


Mizoram COVID-19 count reached 1,18,209 on Tuesday as 790 people, including 160 children, have tested positive for the infection in the last 24 hours, an official said.


The death toll rose to 419 as seven more people have succumbed to the infection during the same period, he said.


The single-day positive rate was 9.43 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 8,380 sample tests, he said. Of the 790 fresh cases, 89 cases were confirmed at RT-PCR laboratory in Zoram Medical College (ZMC), 643 were detected through Rapid Antigen Tests, 45 through TrueNat facilities and 13 through FIA (Fluorescent Immunoassay).


The number of active cases now stands at 7,322, while 775 people have recovered on Monday, taking the total recoveries to 1,09,702.


The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 93.45 per cent and the death rate is 0.35 per cent. According to state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), more than 12.78 lakh samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, of which 8,380 samples were tested on Monday. As regard to vaccination, the government has administered 12 lakh doses to beneficiaries till Tuesday, of which over 6.95 lakh people have received the first dose and 5 lakh people have been fully vaccinated, state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi said.
