National Pollution Control Day 2021 is being observed by the office of Mizoram Pollution Control Board (MPCB) along with Mizoram ENVIS Hub by organising different activities that aimed at creating general awareness on pollution and its control. Different activities taken up to mark 2021 National Pollution Control were sponsored by Swachhta Action Plan (SAP), wherein MPCB is the State Nodal Agency.
Today morning, Cycle Rallies were organised in Aizawl City and other district headquarters such as Lunglei and Champhai in association with Mizoram Cycling Association (MiCA) in celebration of the day. In Aizawl, the flag off programme of the cycle rally was held at Sikulpuikawn with Pu C. Lalduhawma, Member Secretary, MPCB hosting the event. Mr. Jitendra Kumar, IFS, PCCF, EF&CC, GOM & Chairman, MPCB who graced the programme as Chief Guest launched a Mobile App on Mizoram Air Quality Information & Public Complaints Redressal System developed by MPCB and Mizoram ENVIS Hub and also flagged off the more than 70 cyclists who set out for the rally.
As part of observance of National Pollution Control Day, 2021 competitions such as Online Quiz competitions for Mizoram Eco-club students and open song writing contest on pollution theme was also organised for the public.
Every year on 2 December, National Pollution Control Day is observed in India to commemorate the thousands of people who lost their lives in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy in 1984. The key objective of the day is to educate people about the importance of pollution control acts/rules and the adverse effect of environmental pollution.
