Mizoram on Wednesday reported the highest single-day spike of Covid-19 as 240 more people, including 51 security personnel, have tested positive for Covid-19, pushing the state’s Covid-19 caseload to 8,032, an official said on Wednesday.
The state also reported one Covid-19 fatality in the last 24 hours, which took the death toll to 23, he said.
Of the 240 fresh cases, Aizawl district reported the highest cases at 183, followed by Serchhip and Kolasib districts, which reported 20 and 14 cases respectively.
The remaining cases were reported from Lunglei, Saitual, Siaha, Lawngtlai and Khawzawl districts.
131 cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College’s RT-PCR laboratory in Aizawl district, while 9 cases confirmed at TrueNat facilities from four districts and 100 cases were detected through Rapid Antigen Test from five districts, the official said.
43 personnel of Assam Rifles, 8 Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and 2 healthcare workers were among the newly infected people, he said.
Over 30 children have also tested positive for Covid-19, he said. According to the official, at least 3,871 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and 6.20 per cent of them came out positive for Covid-19.
65 patients have travel history and the rest were found to have locally contracted the virus, he said.
Of the 240 patients, 71 have developed symptoms of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, a 44- year-old man from Aizawl district has succumbed to the infection at Zoram Medical College(ZMC) on Tuesday night. The victim was diagnosed with Covid19 on May 4 and was shifted from a Covid-19 Care Centre to ZMC on May 10. The victim also has comorbid status.
Mizoram now has 1,889 active cases, while 6,120 people have recovered from the infection. 118 people were discharged from various Covid19 Care Centres on Wednesday.
The state has conducted 3,37,235 samples test till date.
State immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi said that 2,28,713 people have been vaccinated and 51,260 of them have received both doses of Covid-19 vaccine till Tuesday.
